What started 35 years ago with drumming on oil barrels and was continiued for years to come with different live acts is now brought into a new form by multi instrumentalist Tom Joe with his Grooving-Ethno CD "Sagarmatha".
In nealry two years solo work an outstanding album was created that mixes Rock with Ethno and World Music. An instrumental elevator intoxication dealing with the unique moutains of the Himalaya.
But if one fears to hear long Psychedelic soundscapes he is mistaken. Because the monks are dancing here. Tom Joe says: "Mountains are not only great to look at, they are mainly hard. The can love you, but also kill you. They can lay the spirit of the Creation to your feet, but also teach you fear. Mountains are not romantic - rather the house of the gods, the highest in the world."
That is also the thread of the 11 songs: A rhythmic massive built out of Rock, Pop, Blues, Soul, Reggae, via Folk, Electro to Ethno Spirituals. Always changing instruments without killing the groove.
Some of the used instruments are drums and percussion from Antigua to Zimbabwe, instruments from Australia to Cyprus, from wooden sticks to the synthsizer, from the triangle to the orchestra, from the sound bowl to the church organ.
Tom Joe has the final say: "Not everything that is worded is explainable. But everything that you hear brings your fantasy to life. The unexplainable, the untouchable has to be heard to be experienced!" In this spirit: Sagarmatha - groovy, funky, jazzy, psychedelic, mystic, oriental.
